Himalayan journey in the heart of holistic medicine

Holistic medicine definition

The word “holistic” is derived from the Greek word “holos” which means “full, entire”.
A holistic approach consists in seeing the whole person and doesn’t only seek the physical body. It highlights the mind-body connection and focuses on the physical, emotional and spiritual body.

Thus, holistic medicine doesn’t look for curing the disease by treating solely its physical consequence but searches for the cause of this physical manifestation which often has its roots in the emotional and mental body.

To sum up, where conventional medicine attaches itself to organ dysfunction in particular or only to symptoms, holistic medicine considers the human being as a whole and breaks down the body into several parts, such as: the physical body, the emotional body, the mental body and the spiritual body.

Holistic medicine, Himalayan evidence

Holistic medicine has always been for me self-evident and my trip to the Himalayas is going to directly throw me into this reality. When I arrived in Nepal, I discovered a culture where the holistic medicine approach is normal. We are far away from our Western culture where pharmaceutical issues have been striving to marginalize alternative medicine always for more profits.

Meditation, yoga, Tibetan singing bowls, alternative medicine are widespread, they are integral part of the Nepalese life. All these tools from holistic medicine which allow reaching a stable life balance and readjusting the proper functioning of the energetic body are ubiquitous. Here, we understand the significance of the mind-body relationship. The approach to life of the relativity and the control of one’s negative feelings is a way of life.
